Green Season on Koh Chang&Koh Kood: More Than Just Sunshine

Discover why June to October is a great time to visit Koh Chang and Koh Kood for diving, snorkeling, and family holidays.

When people think about planning a holiday in Thailand, many immediately look for the “dry season/high season”. But if you ask the BBdivers team, we’ll tell you that green season has its own kind of magic.

Yes, the weather can be unpredictable. One moment the sun is shining, the next a tropical shower rolls in, only to clear up again an hour later. That’s simply part of life on a tropical island and it’s exactly what keeps the islands so lush, green, and beautiful.

Enjoy Diving and Snorkeling All Year

One of the biggest misconceptions is that green season means poor diving conditions. In reality, we simply adapt our trips to the weather.

From Koh Chang, our favourite destination during this time of year is Koh Rang National Park. The islands provide shelter from the prevailing winds and the waves, creating calm conditions for both divers and snorkelers on many days throughout the season.

From Koh Kood, we enjoy snorkeling and diving along the island’s sheltered east coast, an area that is unreachable by road and accessible only by boat. Surrounded by stunning views of the ocean, lush jungle, and endless sky, the calm seas provide perfect conditions for an unforgettable day exploring this remote and beautiful part of the island.

Just a short boat ride from Koh Kood, you’ll discover beautiful coral reefs that are perfect for a relaxing day on the water. On other days, when conditions allow, we head to the stunning reefs of Koh Rang National Park. It’s a longer boat trip, but well worth the journey to explore some of the most spectacular coral reefs in the region.

Below the surface, nothing changes. Coral reefs remain full of life, colourful reef fish swim through the coral gardens, turtles are regular visitors, and schools of barracuda, batfish, and fusiliers continue to entertain our guests. With fewer boats on the water, you’ll often feel like you have the reef all to yourself.

The Perfect Family Holiday

July and August are holiday months for many families, making it the perfect opportunity to discover the underwater world together.

Not everyone has to be a certified diver. Families can mix activities so everyone has fun:

  • Spend the day snorkeling above beautiful coral reefs.
  • Try scuba diving for the very first time with a Bubblemaker dive for 8 to 10 years old, or a Discover Scuba Diving experience, no certification needed.
  • Or take the next step and become a certified diver with the PADI Open Water Course.

Children from 10 years old can already earn their PADI Open Water certification, opening the door to a lifetime of underwater adventures.

Watching parents and children experience their first breaths underwater together is one of the most rewarding parts of our job.

More Than Just Diving

Green season is also a wonderful time to slow down and enjoy island life.

Stay at Cliff Cottage, relax with a sea view, enjoy lunch overlooking Bang Bao Bay, go kayaking in the bay of bang bao, take a swim in the pool, or simply spend time together surrounded by nature. The island is quieter, the atmosphere is relaxed, and you’ll often have beaches and viewpoints almost to yourself.

Don’t Let the Weather Forecast Decide Your Holiday

Weather apps often show rain every day during the green season. While technically correct, that doesn’t mean it rains all day.

Tropical showers are usually short-lived, and many days still offer plenty of sunshine in between. Some of our most beautiful dive days happen during the green season.

If you’re looking for a relaxed holiday, fewer crowds, beautiful underwater scenery, and unforgettable family experiences, July might just become your favourite time to visit Koh Chang.

We’d love to welcome you on board and show you why green season is one of our best-kept secrets.
